Gunman Contracts Settings: Performance, Blur and FOV Fixes
Start here
The launch build has no DLSS, FSR or other upscaler; players asked for them in the first week. So performance comes from the usual levers: the graphics preset (very high down to low), shadows and effects, and in VR the render resolution. Steam’s own spec sheet puts VR at an RTX 3060 and i7-12700 with 16 GB of RAM, and flat screen at a GTX 1070 and i5-7500 with 12 GB. The developer notes on the store page that testing on different systems is still in progress.
Results vary a lot. One VR player saw about 64 FPS on both very high and low, which suggests a CPU or engine bottleneck rather than the GPU, while a flat-screen player on an RTX 5080 reported 300+ FPS at 1440p. More reports are on the system requirements page.
If the picture is blurry
The usual cause is TAA anti-aliasing. The settings offer other modes; switch to one of those and check again. LunchAndVR also calls the TAA image smudgy. In VR, raise the render resolution in SteamVR (or your streaming app, if you use a Quest) rather than looking for an in-game resolution slider.
If flat screen feels laggy
- Turn V-Sync off. One player with a 5080 who had input lag and rubber-banding fixed it this way.
- Turn mouse smoothing off in the controls menu. It is on by default, and GameOnScorpio recommends switching it off too.
Raising the flat-screen field of view
The in-game slider stops at 65. A player on the Steam forum found the value in the game’s config file:
- Close the game.
- Open
C:\Users\<your name>\AppData\LocalLow\ANB_Seth\GunmanContracts\and back upConfigs.json. - Find the
FPSFOVentry, which is set to 65, and change the number. - Save and relaunch.
This is a player workaround from a single report, not an official setting, so keep your backup.
Recording and streaming
Jammyhero found that recording with OBS or Steam’s recorder dropped the frame rate enough to force medium settings on an RX 6700 XT. The game has its own camera and recording options for content creators, and Gamertag VR notes the nicer capture mode costs performance too.
VR comfort options
UploadVR lists a long set of options: snap and smooth turning, headset or controller-relative movement, sitting or standing modes, height adjustment, vignette options and blink teleport. Missing at launch:
- Toggle grip. Grip is hold-only, and several players ask for a toggle.
- Brightness or gamma. The game is dark; raise the brightness on your headset if you need to.
- bHaptics support. Not in the launch build.
Still broken?
Crashes, VR not starting and the War-House charge bug are on the known issues page, with the workarounds players have found.
Thanks for the feedback!
